Soledad PD is looking and seeking more information on People who Trespassed on Los Coches Adobe

The Soledad Police Department is looking to identify 2 males who trespassed on the grounds of the historic Los Coches Adobe. While on the grounds they were able to move one of the security cameras and make their way around several of the buildings on the property. 2020-21 NWS Rain Numbers for King City

The NWS 2020-21 Rain Year which runs from July 1 - June 30 officially ends on Wednesday night, June 30. According to the National Weather Service the King City area accumulated 7.36 inches of precipitation for the season.

Armed Robbery at Shop 'N' Save Store in Soledad

On Tuesday, June 29 at approximately 4:15 PM, Soledad Police Officers were dispatched to a Shop n Save Liquor store located at 895 Front Street for a report of an armed robbery that had occurred. The suspect was described as a Hispanic adult male in his mid-20s with a thin build, light complection, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and a black mask. He entered the store armed with a silver revolver and ordered the clerk to give him money in the cash register and then fled the business on foot. If anyone has any information regarding this suspect then please call the Soledad Police Department at 223-5121 or Officer Fredy Ambriz at 223-5115.

UPDATE on Fireworks Show and 4th of July Jamboree at Fort Hunter Liggett

FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. –Fireworks will light up the sky at Fort Hunter Liggett on America’s 245th birthday, capping an evening of live entertainment, food, carnival games and rides for all ages. The first-ever July 4th Jamboree, hosted by Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, will take place at the Fort Hunter Liggett Multi-Purpose Range Complex from 5-10 p.m., with entertainment by The Stagecoach Three and Soundhouse Productions, two local bands that will be performing throughout the evening. The Stagecoach Three will play country music from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Soundhouse Productions will be onstage with various genres of music from 7:30 until the professional fireworks show, which begins at 9:30 p.m. Festival goers are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets. Telephone Scam Alert in Monterey County

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has had several reports of attempted telephone scams. The caller identifies themselves as a member of the Sheriff's Office and often uses actual names of Deputies, Sergeants, Commanders, and even the Under-Sheriff and Sheriff. They advise the citizen of a warrant and insist it can be handled over the phone by sending money. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office does not conduct business in this manner and will not be calling anyone to collect money and/or threaten them with arrest for failure to comply. If you come across a telephone scam of this nature then please contact the Monterey County Sheriff's Office at 831-755-3700.

Updated numbers from the Monterey County Health Department on Wednesday, June 30 report that confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the County are now at 43,892 people, while 43,845 people have been released from isolation. 12,886 of the cases are out of South Monterey County which include 2,180 in King City, 2,751 in Greenfield, 6,128 in Soledad, 1,374 in Gonzales, 106 in San Ardo, 201 in Chualar, 68 in San Lucas, while 27 cases are from other cities or towns in South Monterey County. There have also been 29 cases reported in Bradley and 22 in San Miguel. In addition, 11,661 are from person to person transmissions, 4,924 have come from community transmissions, 5 are currently hospitalized, 496 people have died, 23,247 are under investigation and 3,690 people who work in Agriculture have come down with COVID-19.

Charles Lafferty Sentenced to 15 Years in State Prison for Highway Projectile Incidents in Monterey County

SALINAS, California- Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced on Tuesday, June 29 that the Honorable Mark E. Hood sentenced 54-year-old Charles Kenneth Lafferty to 15 years in state prison following his guilty pleas to 28 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. All of these convictions qualify as strikes under California’s Three Strikes law. The incidents involved Lafferty firing projectiles at numerous vehicles driving on Monterey County highways between February 2019 and January 2020. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested him in Nipomo, California, on January 22, 2020, following a comprehensive investigation into more than 70 incidents of vehicles being struck with unknown objects while driving. King City Young Farmers to Host Avenue of Honor Dedication Ceremony and Barbecue Fundraiser at San Lorenzo Park on July 4

The King City Young Farmers will be holding an Avenue of Honor Dedication Ceremony along with a Renovation and Relocation Rib Barbecue Fundraiser on Sunday, July 4 from 12 pm to 3 pm at San Lorenzo Park in King City. Lunch is $15 per person, while proceeds from the event will be used to fund the restoration and continued maintenance of the Avenue of Honor. The project honors local area military veterans that have been killed in action during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and later military actions. This renovation and relocation project will allow the Avenue of Honor to be appreciated as it was intended. The location will serve as an additional feature to San Lorenzo Park allowing individuals, groups and organizations to utilize the area for Celebrations, Memorials and Holiday Tributes, such as the 4th of July, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and so many more. The Avenue of Honor is yet another benefit made possible to South Monterey County, the Parks Department and its citizens.

UPDATE: Brush Fire Extinguished Outside of King City in Salinas River Bed

A brush fire that sparked in the Salinas River Bed off of Highway 101 and Jolon Road near King City at 4:10 pm on Sunday, June 27 is now fully contained. According to CAL FIRE BEU, the fire burned 25 acres and was fully put out at 2:27 pm on Monday, June 28. No structures were threatened and no one was injured. The blaze caused traffic delays on Highway 101 in both directions at around 7 pm on Sunday evening, June 27. The Gonzales Fire Department, the Greenfield Fire Department, the South Monterey County Fire Protection District, the Camp Roberts Fire Department and the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department all assisted CAL FIRE in knocking down this blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Drone Flights to be done in the Salinas Riverbed in Paso Robles

PASO ROBLES, CA – Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services will be conducting periodic drone flights in the Salinas Riverbed to increase wildfire situational awareness. The drone is equipped with visual and thermal imaging cameras that provide real-time video and data transmission to the Fire Department. The drone technology will be used for a variety of situations to include hot-spot identification, campfires, and aerial mapping. At this time, the drone will only be utilized in the Salinas Riverbed. This technology will assist us in the early detection of fires, containment, and extinguishment. With the addition of this tool, the Fire Department is able to gain a new level of situational awareness. Most importantly, the use of drones in the Salinas Riverbed will help in mitigating our community’s fire risk. The Fire Department’s drone program will not be utilized to monitor members of the public or provide surveillance for law enforcement purposes.

Road and Lane Closures in South Monterey Count on Highway 101

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for South Monterey County from Sunday, June 27 through July 3. Highway 101: San Antonio River Bridge, King City: June 28 There will be one alternating lane, median and shoulder closures along northbound and southbound Highway 101 beginning 2,000 ft north of the San Antonio River Bridge to 2,000 feet south of the bridge for bridge work from 6 am to 5 pm. Highway 101: First Street – Jolon Road, King City: Long-Term There will be one lane closure along northbound and southbound Highway 101 from First Street to Jolon Road for roadway excavation and pavement work from 8 am to 4 pm. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

“Caltrans Awards TAMC and Partners $664,127 Grant for The Salinas Valley Safe Routes to School Plan”

MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) announced that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has awarded the agency and its partners, Monterey County Health Department and Ecology Action, a Sustainable Communities Transportation Planning Grant in the amount of $664,127 for the Salinas Valley Safe Routes to Schools Plan. The money, matched with $126, 501 of Measure X funds, will be used to identify safe routes to school and active transportation improvements for twenty-two K-12 public schools serving nearly 16,000 students in the cities of Gonzales, King City, Soledad and Greenfield. The Salinas Valley Safe Routes to School Plan process will be driven by community input and data collected through walking audits, surveys and other sources. For the first time in TAMC’s history, this Safe Routes to School Plan will include establishment of a Steering Committee to support citizen involvement and pilot a participatory budgeting process.

Mee Memorial Foundation celebrates National Rose Month in June with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with King City and Soledad-Mission Chambers of Commerce on June 29; Foundation will Unveil New Fountain, Bricks and Bench

Vegetation Fires at Salinas Riverbed in Paso Robles Extinguished

PASO ROBLES, CA – Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to two small vegetation fires over the past 24 hours in the Salinas riverbed. The first fire occurred on Friday, June 25 at approximately 6:21 p.m. which was accessed off of Navajo Avenue. The fire was a small 10’ x 10’ area and was quickly extinguished by responding units from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services. The second fire occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 26 at approximately 12:53 a.m. adjacent to Highway 101 northbound just south of Highway 46 east. Three fire engines, one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles, and one type III engine from Cal Fire/SLO County Fire responded to contain the fire. Paso Robles Police Department responded to assist with traffic control as one lane of Highway 101 was temporarily closed for the safety of fire personnel. The fire was mapped at .20 acres and was fully extinguished within one hour. The fire was determined to be human caused.

Vegetation Fire Burning Close to King City in Salinas River Bed

A brush fire flared up in the Salinas River Bed off of Highway 101 and Jolon Road near King City at 4:10 pm on Sunday, June 27. According to CAL FIRE BEU, the fire has burned 25 acres and is 50% contained as of 10:45 pm on Sunday night and Fire crews have stopped forward progress on the fire burning close to King City. No structures are being threatened. The blaze caused traffic delays on Highway 101 in both directions as of 7 pm Sunday evening. The Gonzales Fire Department, the Greenfield Fire Department, the South Monterey County Fire Protection District, the Camp Roberts Fire Department and the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department have all assisted CAL FIRE with this blaze. Willow Fire Road Closures Removed

According to the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services, all road closures around the Willow Fire have been removed as of Friday, June 25 that include: Arroyo Seco and Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Valley Road at Tassajara, and Tassajara at Cachagua Road.

1 Vehicle Wreck on Highway 101 and SR 146 in Soledad

A 1 vehicle accident happened on Highway 101 Southbound and State Route 146 in Soledad at 1:03 pm on Friday, June 25. One of the occupants in the vehicle received minor injuries from the crash. The cause of the collision is unknown.

Representative Panetta Leads California Congressmembers in Calling for Emergency Resources to Combat Willow Fire

SALINAS, CA – On Friday, June 25 Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), joined by several members of Congress in the California Delegation, sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack requesting assistance in deploying all available resources to combat active wildfires in National Forests, including the Willow Fire currently burning in Monterey County’s Ventana Wilderness in the Los Padres National Forest. “Communities on the Central Coast are still recovering and rebuilding from the historic 2020 wildfires. Congressman Panetta Reintroduces Bipartisan Taxpayer Protection and Paid Preparer Proficiency Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Friday, June 25 Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and Congressman Tom Rice (R-SC-07) introduced the Taxpayer Protection and Preparer Proficiency Act. This legislation allows the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to regulate paid tax preparers and mandates that they meet minimum competency standards. Currently, no minimum federal competency standards for tax preparers exist. Tax preparers have no obligation to receive tax education, training, or competency requirements in tax return preparation, leaving families and individuals who rely on these services at risk. Due to that deficiency, the IRS receives tens of thousands of complaints per year regarding insufficient services. While tax preparers may be prosecuted for fraud, current precedent bars prosecution for incompetence. New Dairy Princess Crowned; Selina Lopes of Gustine Selected as District 6 Dairy Ambassador

TRACY, Calif. – On Thursday, June 24 Selina Lopes of Gustine was selected as the 2021 Dairy Princess for the California Milk Advisory Board's (CMAB) District 6. Lauryn Knott of Merced was crowned Alternate, and Rikki Silveria of Hilmar was crowned Second Alternate. The virtual contest took place on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Retiring Dairy Princess Alyce Silva turned the title over to Selina and wished her success as she represents the California dairy industry throughout the coming year. In attendance was retiring Alternate, Paige Brigham, who welcomed the newly crowned Alternates to the program. Cattle Ranching and the Salinas Valley Fair Come to Life in New Mural Presented in King City

Over 40 people were in attendance for the unveiling of a new mural displaying the history of cattle ranching and the Salinas Valley Fair off of 1011 Broadway Street in King City on Thursday, June 24. The project was made possible by a total of 90 past and present cattle ranching families in the area who had their names painted on the mural, while a non-profit organization and local area businesses also contributed. Lead Artist Jennifer Hargrove-Beebe and several other area residents put in over 100 hours in completing this project. All of the muralists are King City High School graduates.

Car Fire Knocked Down on Highway 101 in Soledad near the CTF

A car fire occurred on Highway 101 Southbound north of the CTF in Soledad at 3:17 pm on Thursday, June 24. Local area fireghters put out the fire in less than 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Multiple Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 between Soledad and Gonzales

A 4 vehicle collision took place on Highway 101 Southbound near the Gloria Road Offramp between Soledad and Gonzales at 3:49 pm on Thursday, June 24. The crash slowed down traffic in that area for over 20 minutes. No one was injured.

1 Vehicle Rollover on Highway 101 in Camp Roberts

1 vehicle overturned involving a Humvee happened on Highway 101 in the Camp Roberts area at 12:51 pm on Thursday, June 24. One person was injured in the crash. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Monterey County now at 43,858 with 456 deaths

Updated numbers from the Monterey County Health Department on Thursday, June 24 report that confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the County are now at 43,858 people, while 43,818 people have been released from isolation and 254,687 people have been tested in the County. 12,885 of the cases are out of South Monterey County which include 2,180 in King City, 2,752 in Greenfield, 6,126 in Soledad, 1,374 in Gonzales, 106 in San Ardo, 201 in Chualar, 68 in San Lucas, while 27 cases are from other cities or towns in South Monterey County. There have also been 29 cases reported in Bradley and 22 in San Miguel. In addition, 11,629 are from person to person transmissions, 4,888 have come from community transmissions, 1 is currently hospitalized, 456 people have died, 23,270 are under investigation and 3,687 people who work in Agriculture have come down with COVID-19.

Residential Structure Fire Extinguished in Paso Robles

PASO ROBLES, CA – On Wednesday June 23, 2021 at 3:55 p.m., Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 514 Fein Avenue in Paso Robles. First arriving firefighters arrived within 6 minutes and found a single-family residence that had light smoke showing from the front door. Prior to fire department arrival Paso Robles Police responded and made entry into the structure and found an adult male sleeping in a recliner in the living room. Paso Robles Police Officers removed the victim where he was later evaluated by fire department personnel and treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was contained to one bedroom of the occupancy. Two fire engines and one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles responded. Under the City’s automatic and mutual aid agreements, two fire engines and one Battalion Chief from Cal Fire / SLO County also responded. A total of 14 firefighters responded to the incident.
