“TAMC is Encouraging South County Residents to Join The Colorful Sidewalk Summer Challenge”

MONTEREY COUNTY –The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) in collaboration with the Monterey County Health Department, is encouraging South County residents in the cities of Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad to join the colorful sidewalk “Summer Walk Challenge, ” now through July 31, 2021, and get a chance to win a new bike or scooter! The Transportation Agency, Health Department and community volunteers recently stenciled sidewalks in each of the South County cities to prepare students for safe walking routes to schools in the fall. The summer challenge is the opportunity for residents in each city to learn the routes and practice walking to school. Participants can make this a fun event by walking at various times with friends, family and pets with an opportunity to win a new bike or scooter in random drawings at the conclusion of the challenge. The more times you walk the route the better your chances of winning. The three easy steps to participate in the “Summer Walk Challenge” are: Walk any of the routes painted on the sidewalk in your community this summer. Snap a picture; and Post on Instagram at #saferoutesmonterey or share to “Safe Routes to School – Monterey County” on Facebook The colorful stencils mark the routes for “Walking School Buses” and “Park & Walk”, two programs that will be launched in Fall 2021 in South Monterey County. The programs are a part of the Transportation Agency’s “Safe Routes to School” program which offers tools, programming, and resources to schools, guardians, and communities who want to improve safety and traffic around schools across Monterey County.
