The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has had several reports of attempted telephone scams. The caller identifies themselves as a member of the Sheriff's Office and often uses actual names of Deputies, Sergeants, Commanders, and even the Under-Sheriff and Sheriff. They advise the citizen of a warrant and insist it can be handled over the phone by sending money.
