  MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, July 9 through Saturday, July 15.  Highway 101: Main Street/Chualar-Grant Street/Main Street: July 10 – July 14 One lane closure and one-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound Main Street/Chualar Street and at the southbound off ramp to Main Street from Highway 101 for work on the bridge from 9 pm to 6 am. Highway 101: Canal Street: July 10 – July 14 One-way reversing traffic controls will occur along eastbound and westbound Canal Street in King City for landscaping work from 8:30 am to 4 pm.   SALINAS, CA, July 6, 2023 – The California Rodeo Salinas is coming up July 20-23. Every performance features professional rodeo action along with a theme. Rodeo ticket prices start at $12* for children ages 2-12 and $20* for adults with prices going up $5 per ticket starting on July 17, but there are ways to save on your Rodeo tickets. Thursday, July 20 is Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night. The evening performance is presented by Mechanics Bank and Salinas Valley Health. Patrons can get into the spirit by wearing pink shirts or other clothing items. $1 from each ticket sold on July 20th will be donated to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Salinas Valley Health.   Gonzales Police Officers and Gonzales Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire on the 400 block of Charolais Drive at 11:05 pm on Tuesday night, July 4. Upon arrival, the home was fully engulfed with flames. Firefighters from the Monterey County Regional Fire, Salinas Fire, and the Correctional Training Facility also responded. 5 family members were in the home at the time of the fire, while 1 family member was reported unaccounted for. It was later discovered that the family member had perished in the fire. The identification of the victim is pending verification by the Monterey County Coroner's Office. An Arson Investigator with the California Department of Fire is assisting with the investigation to determine the cause of the fire. It is unconfirmed at this time if illegal fireworks caused the fire, but several aerial fireworks had been witnessed in the area at the time. This is an open, active investigation.   The National Weather Service reports that the King City area finished the 2022-23 rain season on Friday, June 30 accumulating 19.48 inches of precipitation which is a huge jump from the 2021-22 year where only 6.98 inches of rain was received, while the 2020-21 season brought in 7.36 inches. The 2023-24 rain season in King City begins on Saturday, July 1.
