Soledad, CA – On August 10, 2026, at approximately 3:42 p.m., officers with the Soledad Police
Department were investigating a possible domestic violence incident when they located property
believed to be connected to a recent series of thefts from unlocked vehicles.
Further investigation revealed that 29-year-old Luis Jonathan Damian Campos of Soledad, was in
possession of the stolen property. Officers also confirmed that Campos had an outstanding felony
no-bail warrant for his arrest. Prior to officers’ arrival, Campos fled the area and was believed to
be at a nearby residence.
With assistance from the Greenfield Police Department, officers contacted the homeowner of the
residence and received permission to check the backyard to determine whether Campos was
hiding on the property. A Greenfield Police Department drone located Campos as he fled from
the backyard and jumped a fence into a neighboring property.
With assistance from the Greenfield Police Department, Soledad Police officers located Campos
and safely took him into custody.
While officers were completing Campos’ booking process at the Soledad Police Department,
officers were dispatched to a report of property stolen from another unlocked vehicle. The items
reported stolen were identified as property officers had just recovered during the investigation.
Campos was subsequently booked into the Monterey County Jail on his outstanding felony
warrant and additional charges related to the thefts from unlocked vehicles.
This incident also serves as an important reminder to our community to always lock your vehicle
and remove valuables before walking away. Even a brief moment with a vehicle left unlocked
can provide an opportunity for theft. The Soledad Police Department would like to thank the
