California Rodeo Salinas is Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence in October; The Man Up Crusade Efforts will Benefit the YWCA of Monterey County

SALINAS, CA, September 27, 2023 – The California Rodeo Salinas will support the Man Up Crusade in October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with a belt buckle drawing and more. The Man Up Crusade is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating public awareness on the issue of domestic violence. The Man Up Crusade chose professional rodeo and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) as its vehicle of choice to spread the word about the epidemic of domestic violence and teen dating violence. 


Participating rodeos choose a local charity to fund. The California Rodeo Salinas has been working with YWCA of Monterey County for the past few years and the two organizations will join forces again in October to sell tickets for a drawing for a Man Up Crusade belt buckle while also generating awareness via social media and within the local community.  "The YWCA of Monterey County thanks the California Rodeo for their commitment to raising awareness of the community scourge that is domestic violence. Donations can be made at  https://www.carodeo.com/events/2023/man-up-crusade-buckle-drawing or in person at the Fall Round Up Festival at the Salinas Sports Complex October 12-15. The buckle drawing will take place on November 1.

The California Rodeo Association is a not-for-profit organization that strives to preserve and promote the traditions of the California Rodeo Salinas and the West. We support non-profit and other community organizations through the staging of the annual California Rodeo Salinas and year-round operations of the Salinas Sports Complex. Through donations of our facility, vending, and fundraising opportunities during Rodeo and other events, the California Rodeo Association returned over $771,000 to community groups and non-profits in 2023.

3 Vehicle Wreck on Highway 101 Outside of King City on December 26

  A 3 vehicle accident happened on Highway 101 Northbound near the Central Avenue exit outside of King City at 12:07 pm on Thursday afternoon, December 26. One of the vehicles overturned as a result of the crash. Minor injuries were reported from the collision.

Greenfield Man Arrested for November 26 Attempted Murder Incident in King City

  On November 26, 2024, at approximately 4:05 PM, officers from the King City Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Broadway Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been shot multiple times and was transported by family members to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening wounds. Through investigation, detectives identified a possible suspect vehicle. A subject associated to that vehicle was contacted and later arrested for his involvement in the shooting. He is identified as 20-year-old Adrian Justo of Greenfield. Justo was booked into Monterey County Jail for attempted murder. There is no additional information at this time and the investigation is on-going.
