Road and Lane Closures on Highway 101, SR 146 & SR 198 in South Monterey County for the Week of May 28

 

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, May 28 through Saturday, June 3. 


Highway 101: Broadway Street (Northbound): May 31 – June 3

Alternating lane closure will occur along northbound Broadway Street due to work on the bridge from 9 am to 3 pm during the week and 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday. 


 


Highway 101: Jolon Road:  May 30 – June 1

There will be full closure of the on and off ramps of northbound and southbound Highway 101 at Jolon Road for bridge work from 8 am to 4 pm.


 


Highway 101: Jolon Road – First Street: Long- Term

Alternating lane closures will occur along northbound Highway 101 between First Street and Jolon Road for work on the bridge from 8 am 2 pm.


 


Highway 101: First Street – Wild Horse Road: May 30 – June 2

One lane closure will occur along southbound Highway 101 between First Street and Wild Horse Road for bridge and miscellaneous work from 8 am 2 pm.


 


Highway 101: Jolon Road – First Street: Long- Term

One lane closure will occur along northbound Highway 101 between Jolon Road and First Street for pavement work from 8 am to 4 pm.


 


Highway 101: Front Street: May 20

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound Front Street for striping operation work from 7 am 4 pm.


 


Highway 101: North Soledad Overhead:  May 30 –June 2

There will be one lane closure, as well closure of the left medium shoulder and right shoulder along northbound Highway 101 at the Soledad Overhead for sign work from 7 am to 5 pm.


 


Highway 101: First Steet:  May 31 – June 1

There will be full closure of the southbound Highway 101 off and on ramps at First Street for work on the bridge from 8 am to 4 pm.


 


Highway 101: State Route 146:  May 30 – June 2

There will be full closure of the southbound Highway 101 off ramps at State Route 146 for bridge work from 8 pm to 6 am.


 


Highway 101:  Jolon Road (Southbound) – Canal Street: Long – Term

Alternating lane closures will occur along southbound Highway 101 between Jolon Road and Canal Street for bridge work from 8 am to 2 pm.


 


Highway 101:  Camp Roberts Rest Areas: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the Camp Roberts Rest Areas on northbound and southbound Highway 101 for work to upgrade the facility from 10 am to 12 pm.


 


Highway 101: Paris Valley Road – State Route 198: May 30 – June 2

One lane closure will occur along northbound Highway 101 between Paris Valley Road and State Route 198 for emergency repair work from 7 am to 4 pm.


 


Highway 146: Highway 101 – Front Street: May 30 – June 2 

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound State Route 146 for bridge work from 8 pm to 6 am.


 Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Homicide of Inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad Under Investigation

  APRIL 8, 2025 SOLEDAD, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are investigating an alleged homicide of incarcerated person 36-year-old Joseph Mendoza which occurred on Tuesday night, April 8, 2025, at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad. At approximately 5:39 p.m., staff observed incarcerated persons 30-year-old Edgar Frayre and 32-year-old Nicolas Young attacking Joseph Mendoza with improvised weapons on the dayroom floor in Facility C. Staff immediately responded and issued several verbal commands to stop, which were ignored. Staff then deployed multiple less-than-lethal use-of-force options, which ultimately quelled the incident. Frayre and Young were secured in handcuffs. Medical aid was initiated for Mendoza; however, he was pronounced deceased at 6:10 p.m. Medical evaluations were conducted on Frayre and Young, and no serious injuries were reported. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
