Road and Lane Closures in South Monterey County on Highway 101 for the Week of April 9

 

Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for South Monterey County from Sunday, April 9 through Saturday,  April 15. 


Highway 101: North Soledad Overhead:  April 10 - 13

There will be full closure of the off ramp of northbound Highway 101 at the Soledad Overhead for bridge work from 7 am to 5 pm.


Highway 101: Broadway: April 10 - 13

There will be full closure of the northbound and southbound Highway 101 on and off ramps at Broadway for miscellaneous work from 8 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: Canal Street: April 10 - 12

There will be full closure of the northbound and southbound Highway 101 on ramps at Canal Street for miscellaneous work from 8 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: Wild Horse Road - First Street: April 10 - 13

There will be one lane closure along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between First Street and Wild Horse Road for striping operation and miscellaneous work from 8 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: First Street: April 10 - 13

There will be full closure of the northbound and southbound Highway 101 off ramp at First Street for miscellaneous work from 8 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: Jolon Road: April 10 - 13

There will be full closure of the northbound and southbound Highway 101 off and on ramps at Jolon Road for miscellaneous work from 8 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101:  Camp Roberts Rest Areas: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the Camp Roberts Rest Areas on northbound and southbound Highway 101 for work to upgrade the facility from 10 am to 12 pm.


Highway 101: Front Street: Long-Term

One lane  closure will occur along Front Street at Highway 101 for bridge work from 12 am to 12 am.


State Route 198: Peach Tree Valley Road  – Fresno County Line: Long – Term

There will be full closure of State Route 198 from Peach Tree Valley Road to the Fresno County Line due to mud, dirt, and rockslides.

Homicide of Inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad Under Investigation

  APRIL 8, 2025 SOLEDAD, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are investigating an alleged homicide of incarcerated person 36-year-old Joseph Mendoza which occurred on Tuesday night, April 8, 2025, at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad. At approximately 5:39 p.m., staff observed incarcerated persons 30-year-old Edgar Frayre and 32-year-old Nicolas Young attacking Joseph Mendoza with improvised weapons on the dayroom floor in Facility C. Staff immediately responded and issued several verbal commands to stop, which were ignored. Staff then deployed multiple less-than-lethal use-of-force options, which ultimately quelled the incident. Frayre and Young were secured in handcuffs. Medical aid was initiated for Mendoza; however, he was pronounced deceased at 6:10 p.m. Medical evaluations were conducted on Frayre and Young, and no serious injuries were reported. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
