Officials at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad are looking into the death of 22-year-old Jaime Brugada as a homicide. On Tuesday night, April 25 at 9:55 pm correctional officers responded when Brugada was not accounted for in his cell after a regular count. During a search Brugada was found unresponsive in another area of the housing unit with injuries consistent with a homicide. Staff quickly administered life-saving measures and paged emergency services to transport Brugada to an on-site medical facility for treatment where he was pronounced dead at 10:00 p.m.
Officials have limited movement at the institution to facilitate the investigation being conducted by the CTF Investigative Services Unit, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office and the Monterey County Coroner. The Office of the Inspector General was notified and the Monterey County Coroner will determine Brugada’s official cause of death.
Brugada was sentenced from Riverside County on Dec. 22, 2022 to serve 2 years and 8 months for possession/owning firearm by a felon or addict as a second-striker along with a 1 year and 4 month sentence for possession/owning firearm with conviction of a violent felony, to be served concurrently to the first conviction.
