Road and Lane Closures on Highway 101 in South Monterey County for the Week of July 24

 

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, July 24 through Saturday, July 30. 


Highway 101: Elm Avenue – Walnut Avenue: July 25 – July 29

One lane closure will occur along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Elm Avenue and Walnut Avenue for slope repair work from 6 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: State Route 146 – Front Street SB On-Ramp: July 28

Alternating Lane closures will occur along northbound Highway 101 between State Route 146 and the Front Street southbound on-ramp for K-rail installation work 6:30 am to 6 pm.


Highway 101:  State Route 146: July 25 – July 29

There will be full overnight closure of the southbound off-ramp of Highway 101 at State Route 146 for bridge work from 8:30 am to 4 pm and 8 pm to 6 am.


Highway 101: Broadway: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the on and off ramps of northbound and southbound Highway 101 at Broadway for pavement work from 3 am to 12 am.


Highway 101: Canal Street: Long - Term

There will be full closure of the on and off ramps of southbound Highway 101 at Canal Street for paving operation work from 3 am to 11 pm.


Highway 101:  Camp Roberts Rest Areas: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the Camp Roberts Rest Areas on northbound and southbound Highway 101 for work to upgrade the facility from 10 am to 12 pm.


Highway 101: First Street – Jolon Road, King City: Long-Term

There will be one lane closure along northbound and southbound Highway 101 from First Street to Jolon Road for roadway excavation and pavement work from 8 am to 4 pm. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.


State Route 146: Highway 101 – Front Street: July 24 – July 29

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Highway 101 and Front Street for bridge work from 8:30 am – 4 pm on Sunday and 8 pm - 6 am, Sunday - Friday.


State Route 146: Highway 101 – Stonewall Canyon Road (West): July 25

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Highway 101 and Stonewall Canyon Road for chip seal operation work from 7 am – 4 pm.


State Route 146: Ramus Road – San Benito County Line: July 26 & July 28

There will be full closure of eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Ramus Road and the San Benito County Line for chip seal operation work on Tuesday from 7 am to 5 pm, and for shoulder work along the route on Thursday from 7 am – 4 pm.


State Route 146: Highway 101 – Ramus Road: July 27 & July 29

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Highway 101 and Ramus Road for work along the shoulder of the road from 7 am – 4 pm on Wednesday and from            7 am to 1 pm on Friday.


State Route 146: Pinnacles Rd./Metz Rd. – Stonewall Canyon Road: July 26

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Pinnacles Road/Metz Road and Stonewall Canyon Road for chip seal operation work from 7 am – 4 pm. 


Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.

Homicide of Inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad Under Investigation

  APRIL 8, 2025 SOLEDAD, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are investigating an alleged homicide of incarcerated person 36-year-old Joseph Mendoza which occurred on Tuesday night, April 8, 2025, at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad. At approximately 5:39 p.m., staff observed incarcerated persons 30-year-old Edgar Frayre and 32-year-old Nicolas Young attacking Joseph Mendoza with improvised weapons on the dayroom floor in Facility C. Staff immediately responded and issued several verbal commands to stop, which were ignored. Staff then deployed multiple less-than-lethal use-of-force options, which ultimately quelled the incident. Frayre and Young were secured in handcuffs. Medical aid was initiated for Mendoza; however, he was pronounced deceased at 6:10 p.m. Medical evaluations were conducted on Frayre and Young, and no serious injuries were reported.
