Road and Lane Closures on Highway 101 in South Monterey County for the Week of July 17

 

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for South Monterey County from Sunday, July 17 through Saturday, July 23. 

Highway 101: Elm Avenue – Walnut Avenue: July 18 – July 22

One lane closure will occur along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Elm Avenue and Walnut Avenue for slope repair work from 6 am to 4 pm.


Highway 101: North Soledad Overhead – Front Street SB On-Ramp: July 19

There will be one lane closure along northbound Highway 101 from the North Soledad Overhead to the Front Street southbound on-ramp for bridge inspection work 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.


Highway 101: Front Street SB On-Ramp – Moranda Road: July 19

There will be one lane closure along southbound Highway 101 from the Front Street southbound on-ramp to Moranda Road for bridge work 9 am to 10:30 am.


Highway 101: State Route 146 – Front Street SB On-Ramp: July 21 – July 22

Alternating lane closures will occur along northbound Highway 101 between State Route 146 and the Front Street southbound on-ramp for K-rail installation work 6 am to 5 pm.


Highway 101:  State Route 146: July 18 – July 22

There will be full overnight closure of the southbound off-ramp of Highway 101 at State Route 146 for bridge work from 8 pm to 6 am.


Highway 101: Broadway: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the on and off ramps of northbound and southbound Highway 101 at Broadway for pavement work from 3 am to 12 am.


Highway 101: First Street: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the off ramp of southbound Highway 101 at First Street for pavement work.


Highway 101: Canal Street: Long - Term

There will be full closure of the off ramp of southbound Highway 101 at Canal Street for paving operation work from 3 am to 11 pm.


Highway 101:  Camp Roberts Rest Areas: Long-Term

There will be full closure of the Camp Roberts Rest Areas on northbound and southbound Highway 101 for work to upgrade the facility from 10 am to 12 pm.


Highway 101: First Street – Jolon Road, King City: Long-Term

There will be one lane closure along northbound and southbound Highway 101 from First Street to Jolon Road for roadway excavation and pavement work from 8 am to 4 pm. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.


State Route 146: Highway 101 – Front Street: July 18 – July 22

One-way traffic controls will be in place along eastbound and westbound SR 146 between Highway 101 and Front Street for bridge work from 9 am – 3 pm and 8 pm - 6 am. 

Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

  A fatal multi-vehicle collision happened on Saturday night, January 10 at 9:51 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 outside of King City. According to the King City CHP a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by 65-year-old Paul Lee Cooper of Otis, Oregon was heading the wrong way going southbound in the northbound lanes south of Jolon Road, while a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by 33-year-old Dinora Maribel Gomez of Salinas was heading northbound on Highway 101 south of Jolon Road in the #1 lane and a Honda Accord driven by 36-year-old Ignacio Sangerman of King City was also traveling northbound on Highway 101 south of Jolon Road but was in the #2 lane. Due to Cooper's level of impairment his vehicle went the wrong way on Highway 101 going directly into the path of Gomez' vehicle causing the rear of her car to crash with the front of the vehicle driven by Sangerman. Monterey County DA Releases Preliminary Information Concerning an Officer Involved Shooting Incident that Occurred Outside of Soledad on December 16

  SALINAS, California- Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni on December 19 released preliminary information concerning the officer involved shooting (OIS) which occurred at about 1:20 a.m. outside the city of Soledad on December 16, 2025. Just before 1:00 a.m., Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Pina, who has been a peace officer for 10 years all with MCSO, and Deputy Blain Councilman, each in separate patrol cars, were dispatched to 32097 McCoy Road. A resident at the farm labor camp reported a suspicious individual with a handgun whose white Honda 4 door sedan was parked in space 18 at the complex. King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. The King City City Council will formally consider the proposed city manager contract at its meeting on Tuesday night, January 13.
