The Monterey County Regional Fire Protection District announced on July 26 that Interim Fire Chief David Sargenti is now the permanent chief effective on August 1, 2022. Chief Sargenti has been with the department for 26 years with 19 of those years working as a Chief Officer. Chief Sargenti takes over for Michael Urquides who retired in December of 2021. Chief Sargenti graduated from Palma High School, Hartnell College, and Monterey Peninsula College. Chief Sargenti is a Monterey County native with bachelor’s Degrees in Fire Administration and Fire Prevention Technologies from Cogswell Polytechnical College and a Chief Officer Certification from the California State Board of Fire Services.
