On Friday, May 27 a wanted man in a stolen vehicle decided he wanted to take a break in Soledad and a Police Detective in Soledad observed the vehicle which was a grey Volkswagon Sedan with no license plates while in the parking lot of a McDonald's Restaurant.
Once the man saw the Detective, he decided to flee. Officers pursued the suspected vehicle onto Highway 101 Southbound and the suspect passed the Arroyo Seco exit and crashed into another vehicle on the highway. One unit stayed with the crash, and the second unit continued chasing the suspected vehicle which sustained major damage.
The suspected vehicle was unable to continue and and became disabled on Major Farms near Viva Road due to the damage. More Soledad Officers arrived on the scene, joined by Greenfield Police Officers, Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies, and CHP Officers. The suspect was taken into custody sometime after 1:30 pm after a brief struggle with officers. The driver of the other vehicle and the suspect identified as 35-year-old Johnathan Reelfs out of Redwood City, were transported to the Natividad Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Reelfs will then be lodged in the Monterey County Jail on numerous charges, including felony no-bail warrants involving stolen vehicles and firearms.
