Congressman Panetta Votes Against Administration's Medicaid Block Grant Plan



WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, February 6, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) voted for H.Res. 826 to disapprove of the President’s proposed cuts to Medicaid services through his new illegal block-grant scheme.

Last month, the administration announced a new waiver authority, referred to as the “Healthy Adult Opportunity,” that would allow states to receive a waiver to block grant their Medicaid programs for adults in the expansion population.  The waiver undermines crucial protections of the Medicaid program and gives states broad authority to scale back important beneficiary protections, restrict eligibility standards, and limit access to prescription drugs.

This proposal would push Medicaid recipients off lifesaving medicines, impose unaffordable premiums to maintain coverage and leave more vulnerable families exposed to catastrophic medical bills – with ruinous consequences for rural hospitals, for families seeking opioid addiction treatment for their loved ones and for middle-class seniors with long-term care need.

"This latest proposal is yet another attempt by the administration to reduce people’s access to healthcare and prescription drugs.  I voted for this resolution to disapprove of the proposal because we have a responsibility to protect Medicaid beneficiaries from the harm that would be caused by the administration.  We in the House will continue to stand up for seniors, low-income families, and those with disabilities who rely on Medicaid and Medicare to access healthcare," said Congressman Panetta.

3 Vehicle Wreck on Highway 101 Outside of King City on December 26

  A 3 vehicle accident happened on Highway 101 Northbound near the Central Avenue exit outside of King City at 12:07 pm on Thursday afternoon, December 26. One of the vehicles overturned as a result of the crash. Minor injuries were reported from the collision. 

Greenfield Man Arrested for November 26 Attempted Murder Incident in King City

  On November 26, 2024, at approximately 4:05 PM, officers from the King City Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Broadway Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been shot multiple times and was transported by family members to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening wounds. Through investigation, detectives identified a possible suspect vehicle. A subject associated to that vehicle was contacted and later arrested for his involvement in the shooting. He is identified as 20-year-old Adrian Justo of Greenfield. Justo was booked into Monterey County Jail for attempted murder. There is no additional information at this time and the investigation is on-going.
