The California Highway Patrol Maximum Enforcement Period will be in effect for the New Year's Holiday throughout Monterey County and the state. The MEP begins on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at 6:01 pm and extends through Wednesday night, January 1, 2020, at 11:59 pm.
Officers will be out in force working longer hours to ensure the safety of the motoring public. Areas of concerns for all CHP jurisdictions are collisions causing minor to fatal injuries. The CHP is very concerned for all of those collisions and violations where drivers are under the influence, or driving distracted, speeding or if there are unrestrained occupants in vehicles. Thus, the CHP will be strictly enforcing all laws though these holiday seasons. Please drive safely and responsibly during the holiday season.”
According to the CHP there were 271 arrests made statewide during the December 24 & 25 holiday. 6 of the arrests occurred within Monterey County.
