On Thursday, October 24, at 9:50 am, a King City CHP Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2018 Ford C-Max traveling in excess of 100 mph, southbound on Highway 101 near Hobson Avenue, north of King City. The 2018 Ford was driven by 25 year-old Kevin Medina a parolee from Merced County. Medina failed to stop for the officer and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Medina drove southbound on 101 to the Jolon Road off-ramp in King City and hit a 2015 Dodge pickup driven by Gary Briant of Carmel. Briant was driving southbound on the off-ramp at around 55 mph when Medina's vehicle rear-ended his Dodge. After the non-injury collision, Medina continued driving a short distance on Jolon Road before fleeing on foot from the Ford. The CHP Officer gave chase and was able to apprehend Medina a short distance from Medina's vehicle. Medina was arrested for felony evading a peace officer without further incident and was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
