According to the California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old Greenfield man was killed after a wrong-way crash on Highway 1 near Vista Point at around 11:35 pm on Wednesday night, October 23. The man was heading the wrong way southbound on Highway 1 south of Vista Point while speeding, while a man from Palo Alto and a man from Watsonville were in a Ford Mustang also going southbound on Highway 1. The CHP said that the driver of the Mustang was not able to avoid a head-on crash with the other vehicle. The Greenfield driver of the car going the wrong way died of his injuries at a Hospital in Watsonville, while two passengers in the car, a 27-year-old woman from Greenfield and a 25-year-old woman from Greenfield, were taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas with major injuries. The driver and passenger in the Mustang also had major injuries and were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose. Southbound Highway 1 was shutdown for 3 hours while the CHP investigated. Officers believe drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
