Soledad Man pleads No Contest to Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Minor

Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced on Monday, July 22 that on Friday, July 19, 54-year-old Ruben Crystalinas of Soledad, pled no contest to 1 felony count of continuous sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14. In April of 2019, a 13-year-old girl shared with the Soledad Police Department that she had been molested starting at the age 4 by Crystalinas, an individual who helped run an unlicensed daycare center in the city of Soledad and which the young girl attended. The girl alleged that from ages the 4 to 6, the defendant would bring her into a shed on his property and make her touch his genitalia and/or occasionally would grope her body as well. She stated that this happened on a monthly basis during the time she stayed at the day care center. The girl also shared a series of incidents that occurred from ages 8 to 10 where she would encounter Crystalinas in social settings and he inappropriately touched her outside the presence of other people. While the investigation was pending, Crystalinas turned himself into the police and voluntarily confessed to police that he had in fact been touching the girl inappropriately over the course of many years. Judge Rafael Vasquez will preside over the sentencing on August 23, 2019. Crystalinas agreed to a stipulated 6 years prison sentence. In addition, Crystalinas will be required to register as a sex offender for life. The case was investigated by Officer Gomez of the Soledad Police Department.
