On Friday, May 17 at approximately 8:40 AM, EMS personnel and officers from the Paso Robles Police Department received a report of a man lying on the railroad tracks near Pine and 6th Street. EMS personnel arrived on the scene and located an elderly 70-year-old white male adult lying across the railroad tracks next to his bicycle. The subject had a small amount of blood above his left eye and on his cheek. It appeared as if he had fallen off his bicycle and struck his head. EMS personnel attended to him to no avail, and he was pronounced dead. Detectives from the Paso Robles PD as well as the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded and took over the investigation.
The Union Pacific Railroad was contacted and stopped all incoming trains while the investigation was conducted. The man was not hit by a train and there was no obvious evidence that a crime had occurred. However, this investigation is ongoing and is being treated as a suspicious death until further information is obtained from the autopsy. The deceased man's name will be released upon notification of his next of kin.
