A brush fire flared up sometime after 2 pm near Dead Man's Gulch Road and Sergeants Canyon Road south of San Ardo and 10 miles east of Highway 101 in South Monterey County on Saturday afternoon, August 11. The fire burned around 650 acres and was 100% contained sometime early on Sunday morning, August 12. Firemen from Cal Fire along with the Camp Roberts Fire Department, Hunter Liggett Fire, Seaside Fire, Salinas Fire, and the Monterey Regional Fire District assisted in extinguishing the blaze. In addition, 11 different aircraft helped knocked down this fire. No one was hurt and the cause of the blaze is unknown.
