A
Salinas man is dead after a drunk driver hit his vehicle on Tuesday night, April 17. The CHP
reports that the fatal accident occurred at around 11:19 pm as 38-year-old Charles
Bailey of Gonzales was speeding westbound on Gloria Road which is east of Highway 101 as he
failed to see a Chevy Malibu with 2 occupants also traveling westbound on
Gloria Road. Bailey's
vehicle hit the rear of the Chevy Malibu which caused it to veer off the south edge of
the road where it overturned and came to rest on its wheels. The GMC
veered off the north end of the road into a vineyard. The 55-year-old driver of
the Chevy Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene and his 42-year-old female
passenger suffered a broken pelvis. Bailey
was arrested. The accident is under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor. Any
witnesses of the crash are urged to contact the CHP Monterey Area Office at 831-770-8000
