FORT
HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. – Fort Hunter Liggett will host the annual Youth
Fishing
Derby on Saturday, April 14 at Del Venturi Pond, to celebrate the Army Reserve's 110th birthday and
the Month of the Military Child. Registration begins at 6:30 am and the derby
ends at
noon. Children ages 15 and younger from the local community as well as FHL are invited. Hosted
by the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR), the event drew
236 children in 2017, and sponsors are providing a free BBQ for the
participants. FMWR
will provide fishing poles for up to 150 youth and a limited amount of bait. Participants
are encouraged to bring the bait of their choice. Each
child will be allowed to catch up to 5 fish. Prizes will be given for 1st,
2nd,
and 3rd place
winners. The fishing derby will be held rain or shine.
