California Rodeo Salinas' Kiddie Kapers Parade Returns on July 12; 2026 Theme is "America Salutes Red, White & Boots"

SALINAS, CA, July 3, 2026 – One of the California Rodeo Salinas' most cherished family

traditions returns on Sunday, July 12, at 3:00 p.m. as the annual Kiddie Kapers Parade marches

through Salinas City Center (formerly Oldtown Salinas). Presented by Bay & Basin Insurance

Services, this free community event celebrates patriotism, Western heritage, and the creativity

of local children.

Now in its 95th year, the Kiddie Kapers Parade welcomes children of all ages to participate—no

pre-registration is required. It's free for both participants and spectators and features

everything from decorated bikes, wagons, scooters (helmets required), and strollers to

community groups, floats, dance teams, and imaginative costumes. This year's theme, "America

Salutes Red, White & Boots," encourages participants to show off their patriotic pride with a

Western flair.

Serving as the 2026 Grand Marshal is Addison Joy McWherter, the California Rodeo

Association's 2025 Golden Circle of Champions delegate. Affectionately known as "JoyJoy,"

Addison is a spirited young girl who loves animals, princesses, and bringing smiles to everyone

she meets. Diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2023, she continues to face treatment

with remarkable courage, resilience, and an infectious positive attitude that inspires everyone

around her. The California Rodeo Salinas is proud to honor Addison and celebrate her incredible

strength during this year's parade.

"For generations, Kiddie Kapers has brought families together to celebrate the start of Big

Week," said Mikel Ann Miller, Kiddie Kapers Parade Committee Chair. "We love seeing the

imagination and excitement the children bring each year, and this year's patriotic theme gives

everyone a fun opportunity to show their American spirit while celebrating our Western

heritage."

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets of Salinas City Center as more than

1,200 children help kick off the California Rodeo Salinas' Big Week festivities. Every participant

receives a commemorative ribbon, a crisp $1 bill, and coupons from local merchants, while

first-place winners in each division receive cash prizes and special recognition.
