Adorable pets need you! SPCA Monterey County fosters make a difference in a variety of ways. Right now, the SPCA is caring for 114 rescued puppies and kittens, with more arriving every day.
From bottle-feeding newborn kittens to helping a dog recover from a broken leg, foster volunteers provide the bridge between rescue and a forever home. While the SPCA provides all the medical care, food, and supplies, we are running low on one thing: you.
Fostering isn't a lifelong commitment, it’s a life-saving one. Whether you have a spare bathroom, a guest room, or just a little extra space in your heart, you can help.
The Commitment: Fostering can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
The Support: The SPCA provides everything, food, litter, bedding, medical supplies, and skilled advice.
Your Role: You provide the snuggles, the late-night feedings, and the safe space for a pet to heal or grow.
“I told my daughter we could do it once,” says Bonnie, a volunteer who began fostering nine years ago. “She’s in college now, and I’m still fostering! It’s just so important.” Bonnie has now raised over 50 pets for the SPCA.
Kim, another dedicated foster, adds: “It doesn’t have to be a huge commitment. It can be one kitten. Start off with what you think you can do. Fostering makes you feel really good!”
You can help by taking in bottle-feeding kittens and puppies, mother cats and dogs with their litters who need a quiet place to nurse, or adult pets recovering from lifesaving surgeries who need a soft place to heal during their rehabilitation.

SPCA Monterey County is your nonprofit, independent, donor-supported humane society that has been serving the animals and people of Monterey County since 1905. The SPCA is not a chapter of any other agency and does not have a parent organization. They shelter homeless, neglected and abused pets and livestock, and provide humane education and countless other services to the community. They are the local agency you call to investigate animal cruelty, rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife, and aid domestic animals in distress.
