The SPCA Monterey County Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is currently caring for an injured bald eagle
During the week of December 21, the SPCA Monterey County Wildlife Center rescued a bald eagle in Salinas. The eagle has serious injuries, including a broken coracoid, a bone that connects a bird’s shoulder to its keel to enable flight. The eagle may also have been electrocuted.
Electrocution is a slow-developing injury. It can take several days or even weeks for symptoms to become fully visible. Because of this, the eagle has a very guarded prognosis. This means his condition is serious and the outcome is uncertain, but thanks to your support, our wildlife team is doing all we can, providing skilled care and monitoring.
With this rescue, the SPCA Wildlife Center has now rescued 2,863 wild animals so far in 2025. Support from our compassionate donors make our work possible. Thank you for giving this eagle the best possible chance to recover and fly free again. To help, please give at www.spcamc.org/eagle.
The SPCA Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is the only full service wildlife rehabilitation center serving Monterey County. We operate under permits from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. Your support is extremely important to us, as we do not receive funding from any federal, state or local government agency. Each year, The SPCA Wildlife Center admits over 2,500 animals for treatment and care.
SPCA Monterey County is your nonprofit, independent, donor-supported humane society that has been serving the animals and people of Monterey County since 1905. The SPCA is not a chapter of any other agency and does not have a parent organization. They shelter homeless, neglected and abused pets and livestock, and provide humane education and countless other services to the community. They are the local agency you call to investigate animal cruelty, rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife, and aid domestic animals in distress.
