Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an armed robbery incident on Sunday afternoon, November 23 after 2:00 PM at the Chualar Liquor Store located on the 24000 block of Grant Street in the community of Chualar. Deputies learned that a male suspect entered the store and brandished a handgun. He was able to flee the business with an undisclosed amount of money.
Deputies were able to obtain a license plate on the suspected vehicle, described as a burgundy-colored Cadillac Escalade. Information was broadcast to other agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle. Flock cameras in the City of Salinas alerted officers to the vehicle which was located off of Casentini and Rico Streets in Salinas. Salinas Police officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle with Monterey County sheriff’s deputies and they were able to detain the driver who was positively identified as the suspect and the stolen property was recovered.
28-year-old Roy Hernandez of Gonzales was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for armed robbery and other violations. His bail was set at $55,000.
