3 Vehicle Collision in the Gonzales Area on November 14

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. – On Friday, November 14, 2025, at approximately 7:55 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a 3 vehicle traffic crash on the Old Stage Road overcrossing, north of Alta Street in the Gonzales area.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Kia sedan, driven by 20-year-old Cain Zamora Jr Aguilar from Greenfield, was traveling northbound on the Old Stage Road overcrossing, north of Alta Street. 18-year-old Giselle Rodriguez from Salinas was a passenger in the Kia. Both Aguilar and Rodriguez were not wearing seatbelts. At the same time, an MST Bus, driven by 62-year-old Robert Banez from Salinas, was traveling northbound on Old Stage Road, directly ahead of the Kia. The MST bus was occupied by 10 passengers. Additionally, a GMC pickup, driven by 47-year-old Maria H Flores Arias from Gonzales, was traveling southbound on the Old Stage Road overcrossing. The GMC was occupied by 2 juvenile passengers.

For reasons still under investigation, the Kia crossed into the southbound lane, resulting in a head-on crash with the GMC. This caused the Kia to spin out and caused a second crash with the MST bus.

Both the Aguilar and Rodriguez sustained suspected major injuries. Arias sustained suspected moderate injuries. The juvenile passengers of the GMC sustained suspected minor injuries. All were transported to a local hospital. The driver and passengers of the MST bus sustained no injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. This crash remains under active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP encourages anyone with information related to this crash to contact the Monterey Area office at (831) 770-8000 or email CHPMontereyTips@chp.ca.gov.

The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security.
