Greenfield Police Department Awarded $500,000 Grant to Support At-Risk Youth

During the week of October 12, the Greenfield City Council approved accepting a $500,000 grant through the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program, as recommended by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).

This funding expands our ongoing partnership with Sun Street Centers and their Road to Success diversion program, which helps at-risk teens in Greenfield. For the past 6 years, Sun Street Centers and the Greenfield Police Department have worked together to give youth a second chance, focusing on prevention, accountability, and positive choices, before entering the court system.

The Road to Success program offers:

• Individualized diversion plans for youth ages 13–17

• Counseling, mentoring, and family workshops

• Evidence-based programs like WhyTry and Life Skills Training

• Community service opportunities and school engagement

This funding will allow up to 120 youth to benefit from these services over the next 2 years, helping reduce recidivism and teaching real-world skills for success.

Over the past several years, many of the youth referred to this program have faced serious challenges, including substance abuse, vaping, alcohol use, and gang involvement. Identifying these needs early and offering the proper support can prevent long-term issues and help build a successful future for youth and our community.

The Greenfield PD thanks the Greenfield City Council for continuing to support youth and community safety in the city of Greenfield.

A message to parents: Everything starts at home! Stay involved, guide your children, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. The Greenfield Police Department is here to support families who want to make a positive change.
