State of California Provides Almost $2 Million Grant to Monterey County Workforce Development Board Green CADRE Program

 

July 11, 2025 – Salinas, CA – The Monterey County Workforce Development Board (MCWDB) has received a 2nd round of funding from the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, for the Youth Service Corps employment program. “The Youth Service Corps funding, of almost $2 million dollars, will help MCWDB address local challenges surrounding climate change and food insecurity while providing our local young adults with the opportunity to make an impact in Monterey County through the Green CADRE program,” said Monterey County Workforce Development Board, Executive Director, Christopher Donnelly.


The Green CADRE program will provide up to ninety young adults, between the ages of 18-30 over an 18-month period, with paid job training, work experience and community service projects in Monterey County. The MCWDB Green Cadre program works closely with the California State parks, the City of Monterey and the Food Bank for Monterey County.


Green CADRE projects include:


    Park and trail maintenance

    Wildfire mitigation and protection

    Food banks/ community gardens


The MCWDB Green CADRE program will start August 11, 2025. In the first three weeks of the program, participants will focus on team building, communication skills, and obtaining certifications such as OSHA 10, Safety, and Food Handlers. Job training will start in week four with a focus on addressing key areas of climate and food insecurity. 


The Green CADRE program is designed for out of school young adults between the ages of 18-30 and they will earn $19.00 hourly.  Young adults interested in being considered for the program must apply at https://montereycountyworks.com.Cal4AllGreenCadre Questions may be emailed to MCWDB-greencadre@countyofmonterey.gov    The Green CADRE online application deadline is July 25.

  A fatal multi-vehicle collision happened on Saturday night, January 10 at 9:51 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 outside of King City. King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. The King City City Council will formally consider the proposed city manager contract at its meeting on Tuesday night, January 13. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
