King City Police Department Looks into Threats Against December 6 King City Christmas Parade

On December 6, 2024, the King City Police Department received a call regarding possible threats of gang
violence that may occur during the scheduled Christmas Parade. The information came from a single
reporting person. The reporting person indicated he was walking in the area of the King City Cemetery on
Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in the afternoon. As he passed a male talking on a cellular phone, he
thought he overheard the male tell the person on the other end of the line that he wanted to retaliate for
the recent gang shootings. The male on the phone did not name a particular target but did indicate it
would occur at an intersection on the parade route.
Responding officers conducted a thorough investigation into the information provided by the reporting
person and were unable to substantiate the validity of the information provided. While the investigation
is ongoing and not yet conclusive, the evidence thus far does not support the information to be credible.
The King City Police Department ensures community that they are doing everything they can to
ensure that the King City Christmas parade on December 6 is safe and enjoyable for everybody in attendance. In addition to the King City PD's normally
scheduled patrol personnel, they will have an additional 12 officers patrolling the parade route.
They will also be assisted by officers from the Greenfield Police Department, Monterey County Sheriff’s
Office, California Highway Patrol and security officers provided by Benitez Security.
Everyone is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity you may observe while
attending the parade. Anyone with any additional information is encouraged to contact King City Chief of Police James Hunt with the King City Police Department at (831) 385-4848; or Monterey County Communications at 831-385-8311. Your call may remain completely anonymous.
