Ahead of Halloween, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Compliance Checks of Convicted Sexual Offenders and Parolees Resulting in 4 Arrests; 1 Subject was Arrested for Possession of a 9mm Ghost Gun and other Contraband
On Sunday October 27, 2024, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Detectives conducted compliance checks of convicted
sexual offenders and parolees at various locations in Monterey County. The compliance checks were performed as part of the
grant funded Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team whose collective mission is to proactively target and apprehend
habitual sex offenders, ensuring the safety and security of our communities.
Compliance checks were conducted in the following areas: Greenfield, Prunedale, Gonzales, King City, Royal Oaks,
Castroville, Pajaro, Carmel and Salinas. A total of 12 registered sex offenders or parolees were contacted resulting in 4 arrests. The following persons were booked into the Monterey Jail:

Michael Navarro was found to be a convicted felon in possession of an unregistered 9mm handgun (ghost gun) which was
found in his vehicle. He was also in possession of counterfeit oxycodone pills and marijuana for sales.
Navarro was booked into the Monterey County Jail for the following: PC 29800 Felon in Possession of Firearm; PC
30305(a)(1) Felon in Possession of Ammunition; HS 11351(a) Possession of Controlled Substance for Sale; HS 11370.1
Possession of Controlled Substance While Armed; HS 11350 Possession of Controlled Substance; PC 29850(a) Possession of
a Firearm in a Vehicle; PC 25140 Unlocked Firearm in a Vehicle, PC 3056
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated, “I am proud of the hard work that our Monterey County Sheriff’s Detectives did
to ensure that our communities are safer, especially ahead of Halloween. I encourage our community to continue being vigilant
and report any suspicious or unusual activities to local law enforcement.”
All subjects were booked into the Monterey County Jail and are being held with no bail.
