The Fort Hunter Liggett Youth Fishing Derby is April 27!

 

FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. - Fort Hunter Liggett Directorate of Family & Morale,

Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) will host its annual Youth Fishing Derby for ages 15 and

younger on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 6:30 a.m. to noon at Del Venturi Reservoir. The

reservoir will be stocked with about 3,000 pounds of rainbow trout for participants. Signs will

be posted to guide visitors to the event.

Children up to age 15 from FHL and surrounding communities are invited and will not need a

fishing permit. When the derby ends, the pond will be open for everyone who has a California

fishing license. No FHL fishing permit will be needed April 27 and 28. Registration is required

for participation and begins at 6:30 a.m. There is a limit of five fish per youth, and 1st, 2nd

and 3rd place prizes will be given for the biggest fish caught by each age category.

“We are happy to host this annual event celebrating the Month of the Military Child and

extending this opportunity to the surrounding community,” said Garrison Commander Col.

Stephen Trotter. “We’ll have fishing coaches on site so it’s an excellent opportunity for youth

to learn how to fish safely.”

Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase (cash only) the day of the event. Fishing

poles and a limited amount of bait will be provided for up to 150 youth. Participants are

encouraged to bring their own bait. The fishing derby will be held rain or shine. For more

Monterey County DA Releases Preliminary Information Concerning an Officer Involved Shooting Incident that Occurred Outside of Soledad on December 16

  SALINAS, California- Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni on December 19 released preliminary information concerning the officer involved shooting (OIS) which occurred at about 1:20 a.m. outside the city of Soledad on December 16, 2025. King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. The King City City Council will formally consider the proposed city manager contract at its meeting on Tuesday night, January 13.
