Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Man with Loaded Concealed Handgun, Controlled Substances and $11,000 during King City Patrols on March 11

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the King City area have taken another gun off the streets as a result of the added patrols that began on March 7, 2024.

On Monday, March 11, 2024 at 7:02 pm Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop along the 1100 block of Broadway Street in King City. The driver was identified as 29-year-old King City resident Israel Garcia Carrasco. Based on deputies’ observations of the driver and interior of the vehicle, they were able to conduct a search of the vehicle. During the search deputies located a loaded and concealed firearm along with approximately 17 grams of cocaine that was packaged with the intent to sell. Also located was $11,000 cash, gang indicia and a quarter pound of marijuana. Israel Garcia Carrasco was taken into custody.

Detectives from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit along with arresting deputies, were able to author and obtain a search warrant for Garcia Carrasco’s residence. The search warrant was executed. During the search, deputies located indicia of gun ownership and narcotics sales paraphernalia.

Carrasco was booked into the Monterey County Jail for the following charges:

25400 (a) PC-Carrying a concealed firearm

25850 (c)(3) PC-gang member in possession of a firearm

25850 (c)(4) PC-prohibited person possessing firearm

11359 (B) PC-possessing marijuana for sale

11351 HS-possession of controlled substance for sale

11370.1 (a) HS- possession of firearm while in possession of a controlled substance

11362.3(A)(4) HS- Possession of open container (cannabis)

26708 (a)(1) VC-window obstruction

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office continues to remain vigilant in and around the King City area in an effort to assist the King City Police Department during the ongoing investigation into the mass shooting incident that took place on Sunday, March 3, 2024. A $20,000 reward is still being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for this act. Homicide of Inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad Under Investigation

  APRIL 8, 2025 SOLEDAD, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are investigating an alleged homicide of incarcerated person 36-year-old Joseph Mendoza which occurred on Tuesday night, April 8, 2025, at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad. At approximately 5:39 p.m., staff observed incarcerated persons 30-year-old Edgar Frayre and 32-year-old Nicolas Young attacking Joseph Mendoza with improvised weapons on the dayroom floor in Facility C. Staff immediately responded and issued several verbal commands to stop, which were ignored. Staff then deployed multiple less-than-lethal use-of-force options, which ultimately quelled the incident. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
