Riley is a writer and spoken word poet. He's had a love affair with words since his early childhood. His work covers everything from humor to philosophy and theology and various combinations thereof. For him, poetry is an overflow of life. A closet poet for the most part until recently, Jake got his start at his church, and has since gone on to perform at events from Iowa to Nevada and was honored to take part in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 National Cowboy Poetry Gatherings. Expect an animated performance from Riley.

The event is held in memory of long-time master of ceremonies and cowboy poet Clem Albertoni who passed away in 2021. Albertoni, a local legend in Monterey County, was involved with the event for years. Donors supporting this event are welcome as the California Rodeo Salinas strives to keep the traditions of the West alive. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
