Road Rehabilitation Work on Harkins Road and Hunter Lane in Monterey County Starts on October 16

Construction work on Harkins Road and Hunter Lane will begin on Monday, October 16, 2023. Harkins Road work will be located from the City of Salinas limits to Fifth Street in the community of Spreckels. On Hunter Lane, the work will be taking place from State Route 68 to Harkins Road. The duration of construction is expected to be 3 months with the expectation of being complete by the end of January 2024. In general, the work involves pulverizing and recycling the existing pavement surface in place and placing an asphalt concrete overlay. The work is to improve the rideability of the road and extend the pavement life. The majority of the road work is expected to be done during the day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with occasional nighttime work. Temporary traffic control measures, such as lane closures and one lane reversible traffic control will be implemented during construction. County of Monterey Public works will be making every effort to keep the community updated on the progress of the work and the impacts to traffic.

The estimated construction cost is $5.7 million. This project is mainly funded by SB1 and Measure X funds. Teichert Construction, from Sacramento, California, the lowest bidder, was awarded the construction contract for this project.
