Mee Memorial Healthcare System is Selected to Participate in the Rural Healthcare Provider Transition Project (RHPTP)

KING CITY, Calif., The Health Resources Services Administration’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP), the National Rural Health Resource Center (The Center) announced that Mee Memorial Healthcare System has been selected to participate in the Rural Healthcare Provider Transition Project (RHPTP).

RHPTP is designed to help strengthen the foundations of small rural hospitals and certified rural health clinics (RHCs) in the key elements of value-based care (VBC) including but not limited to efficiency, quality, patient experience, and safety. The goal is to guide small rural hospitals and certified RHCs to prepare for and position their organizations to be effective participants in a health system focused on value.

Mee Memorial Healthcare System will receive technical assistance through comprehensive consultations with nationally recognized consultants. Only five (5) hospitals and/or RHCs are selected on an annual basis to participate in RHPTP. The selection process is competitive. The top five applicants that meet eligibility criteria and organizational readiness, and demonstrate that they are willing and able to complete participation requirements are chosen. The selection process considers the organization’s leadership and their commitment to implementing best practices.

With the support of the FORHP, the Center recognized Mee Memorial Healthcare System for this outstanding accomplishment and is looking forward to working with Mee Memorial Healthcare and its community surrounding King City, CA.

“We are excited to participate in this project” said Rena Salamacha, CEO. “It is an opportunity for us to reinforce our mission to provide quality value-based care to the South County community.”

On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
