SALINAS, California- Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced on August 25 that on August 22, 2023, Judge Jennifer J. O’Keefe sentenced 29-year-old Juan Jimenez Ramirez of Greenfield to 6 years in prison for 1 count of committing a lewd act upon a child under 14 years old. This offense is a serious and violent felony and is considered a strike under California’s Three Strikes law. Jimenez will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years. A young girl reported that Jimenez, a family member, molested her on 1 occasion when she was under the age of 14 years old. Jimenez drove her to a local Walmart, away from the rest of her family and sexually assaulted her. The girl was afraid to report what Jimenez had done to her because Jimenez was an authority figure in her life, and she did not think that anyone would believe her. According to research into sexual assault victim behavior, it is very common for victims to delay reporting the sexual abuse, especially when the victim is a minor and has a close relationship with the perpetrator. This case was investigated by Detective Luis Toribio from Salinas Police Department and other officers from the Salinas Police Department as well as officers from Greenfield Police Department. The girl was assisted by Victim Advocate Sonia Buenrostro.
