King City Pools Announces Modified Summer Schedule and Temporary Closure

The dive pool at the King City Pool Facility will be undergoing a major renovation which will impact the 2023 King City Pools summer season.  Over the past several years, the dive pool has experienced delamination of the pool floor and walls resulting in cracks in the surface. This condition requires resurfacing as soon as possible to avoid any further damage.  Work had been slated to begin early in the spring, but inclement weather disrupted the schedule. As a result, the City of King has no choice but to perform the work in the summer which will require closure of all the pools to the public for a portion of the construction period.  The dive pool work will begin on Saturday, May 20 and is expected to last approximately 6 weeks. Therefore, the modified summer pool schedule is as follows:

May 30 – June 9: Open for school pool parties and afternoon swimming lessons only.

June 3, 4, 10 and 11, weekends only: Open for lap swim at noon (Saturday only) and rec swim from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

June 12 – June 23: Facility closed to the public for dive pool fiberglass application.

June 24 – August 4: Regular season commences; open Tuesday – Sunday, swimming lessons (Tuesday – Friday), water aerobics (Tuesday – Friday at noon), lap swimming (Tuesday – Saturday at noon), rec swim from 1:00 p.m. – 3:50 p.m.

Swimming lesson registration begins on May 15 at www.kingcityrecreation.com.  The City will offer lessons at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.  The swimming lesson schedule is as follows:

Session 1:  May 30 – June 9 – Afternoons only

On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
