County of Monterey Launching Non-Congregate Shelter Accommodation Program for Disaster Victims

 

The County of Monterey is beginning its transition to other temporary emergency sheltering options for

residents impacted by the March 2023 storms.

The County’s non-congregate shelter program is in the final stages of development. It will move those

who are eligible from the county’s mass emergency shelter into hotel accommodations temporarily. The

number of hotel rooms available are limited and those interested must apply for this program.

A County team will be assisting with applications for the program at Pajaro Park on Saturday, April 29

from 10 am to 5 pm. This is the first sign up opportunity for this new program, additional dates will be

announced.

Residents will need bring documentation to be eligible:

• Photo ID

• Proof of Residency to validate pre-disaster living- One of the following:

o Bill in your name (Credit card, doctor, cell phone, etc.)

o School records

o Utility bill

o Lease/rental agreement

o Vehicle registration

o Bank statement with name/address

o Insurance policy (Car, rental, homeowner)

o Property Tax bill

o Mortgage agreement

o Notice of action from Monterey County (Cal Works, Cal Fresh, MediCal)

The County’s Emergency Shelter at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds will remain open for the time

being to house those impacted by flooding and who may not be eligible for other shelter options;

however, new guests are no longer being accepted. This change does not affect those current staying at

the shelter, who can remain and continue to receive the services that the shelter provides until such time

that the shelter closes.

Guest of the emergency shelter and the non-congregate sheltering program are encouraged to continue to seek permanent housing as these services are temporary.

The population at the shelter has been slowly declining over the last few weeks and is as of Friday, April 28 at 145 people.

3 Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 in Soledad on December 7

  A 3 vehicle crash ocurred on Highway 101 Southbound near the Front Street exit in Soledad at 4:01 pm on Thursday afternoon, December 7. Minor injuries were reported as a result of the collision. 

1 Vehicle Rollover Outside of King City on October 20

  1 vehicle overturned off of County Road 18 and Frudden Road outside of King City at 2:34 pm on Friday afternoon, October 20. 1 occupant received injuries as a result of the crash and ended up being transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas to be treated. The cause of the wreck is unknown.
