Construction Resumes on US 101 in King City; 2 Lanes in Each Direction is Now Open on Weekends

MONTEREY COUNTY – With the passing of cold and wet weather conditions, work has again begun on a construction project to rehabilitate the US 101 mainline and ramps and to perform a seismic retrofit and widening on the Salinas River Bridge near King City.

On Wednesday night, April 19 at 8 pm thru Thursday, April 20 at 5 am, contracted crews will be performing a traffic switch from First Street to just north of Jolon Road in both the northbound and southbound directions.

Once this traffic switch has been made travelers will see a move from the current long-term closure of the #2 (right) lane to a long-term closure of #1(left) lane.

Crews will follow this traffic switch with the placement of remaining temporary striping. Final striping will take place once the highway and ramps have been treated with rubberized hot mix asphalt.

In coordination with this traffic switch, crews will be changing each of the ramps between First Street and Jolon Road so that vehicles are channeled into the new lane configuration.

On Wednesday April 19 at 8 pm, thru Thursday April 20 at 5 am, travelers will encounter CHP led traffic breaks in the northbound and southbound direction. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

After this traffic switch, the closure of the #1 lane will only be in effect Mondays at 8 am thru Friday at 2 pm.

Both lanes of US 101 in King City will be open throughout the weekend from Friday at 2 pm to Monday at 8 am for much of the balance of the project.

The contractor for this $78 million construction project is OHL, USA of Irvine, CA.  A completion date for this project will be announced in the next four to six weeks.
