County of Monterey Local Assistance Center assistance Day 3 information

Local, state and federal collaborators are ending Day 3 of the County of Monterey Local Assistance Center (LAC) for those impacted by the 2023 storms, which is located at the Spreckels Veterans Memorial Building.

Here is some interesting data to share.

It was a tremendous Monday, January 23 at the LAC. The number of families now registered for assistance: 939. The total on January 22 was 305.

The most frequently visited booths today: Catholic Charities, EDD, FEMA

MST continues to provide bus service to and from the Center from San Ardo and Pajaro. This helps those residents already economically impacted save the cost of driving to get assistance.

A note about financial assistance/aid:

United Way Monterey County has been able to distribute 195 gift cards to residents, emergency aid for those who were evacuated, have lost wages or had damage to 25% of their primary residence. These cards were donated from the California Fire Foundation. There are no additional gift cards available; however, Catholic Charities is on site and signing up families in need for general assistance and follow up services. While some attending today were disappointed gift cards had runout, there was a silver lining. Those who made the trip found there were benefits they didn’t know about, benefits they didn’t realize they are eligible to receive.

Immigration status is not a barrier to benefits.

During our great turnout Monday, January 23 County staff took the time to talk with residents coming to the center to find out about their needs and concerns and encouraged them to visit all the tables offering services. It worked. Many did not realize how many services and agencies are under one roof and that many benefits are available regardless of immigration status, including those with mixed status families.

Those impacted by the storm are encourahed to take the time to find out about all their options for recovery.

The Local Assistance Center in Spreckels will be open daily through Thursday, January 26 from 9 am until 7 pm.
