Mee Memorial Healthcare System Announces Winners of 2022 National Rural Health Day Student Poster Contest


KING CITY, Calif., — Mee Memorial Healthcare System has announced the winners of its student poster contest organized to celebrate National Rural Health Day on Thursday, November 17.

Open to all South Monterey County public and private school students from kindergarten to 12th grade, the contest centered around NRHD’s 2022 theme “Driving Change: Going the Extra Mile.”

  Prizes were awarded for first $250, second $150 and third place$100, judged on their positive visual message and the way they illustrated the theme.

First prize went to the King City High School classroom students Alejandra Rojas and Elizabeth Garcia. Their vivid poster shows an airplane flying over agricultural fields, a banner trailing behind that reads “National Rural Health Day.” Medical professionals stand next to a vineyard and a tractor with a caption reading “Driving Change. Going the Extra Mile.”

The second-place poster winner Ellise Faith Capuno who is an 11th grader. Her poster focuses on the human eye, the iris representing planet Earth. It reveals the following three steps: 1) Look at a human’s heart, there you find the real art. 2) Let love fill your soul as it continues to show. 3) A simple act of “kind” can change a person’s mind.

Third prize was awarded to Britney Banuelos from King City Arts Magnet School and her colorful collage toting ecology and safeguarding the planet.

National Rural Health Day is an opportunity to “Celebrate the Power of Rural” by honoring the selfless, community-minded, and determined spirit that prevails in rural America. NRHD showcases the efforts of rural healthcare providers, organizations and cooperatives, State Offices of Rural Health, and stakeholders from various industry sectors dedicated to addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face today and into the future.

King City City Council Announces Selection of José Arreola as New City Manager

  January 7, 2025-Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the King City City Council to be its next City Manager. Arreola will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past 10 years. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants and 8 finalists for the position. The King City City Council will formally consider the proposed city manager contract at its meeting on Tuesday night, January 13. King City CHP is searching for person of interest who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Greenfield

On Monday, September 16 at approximately 3:50 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Metz Road south of Elm Avenue in Greenfield.  The driver who caused the collision fled on foot and is currently outstanding.  The California Highway Patrol King City Area is currently seeking the whereabouts of 31-year-old Agustin Santana-Moncada of King City who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.  The King City Area is requesting assistance from the public in locating Santana-Moncada.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the King City Area office at (831) 385-3216.
