In June of 2022, your SPCA Monterey County Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center rescued a coyote pup. During the week of October 16, he was released back into the wild to run free again.
The young coyote was found on June 29 on the side of the road in the Santa Lucia Preserve. His breathing was shallow, his legs were stiff, he was drooling, and he was bleeding from his ear and foot. He was rushed to the SPCA Wildlife Center for emergency care.
After a month of care and treatment from skilled SPCA Wildlife Technicians, the young pup recovered enough to be transferred to the Silicon Valley Wildlife Center where he could be raised and socialized with other orphaned coyotes.
Three months later, he had fully recovered from his injuries and learned the skills he would need to survive in the wild, like hunting, foraging, and appropriate fear of humans. On October 18 he was released back into the Santa Lucia Preserve where he was found.
