Octavio Hurtado Appointed as New Public Works Director in City of King

City of King City Manager Steve Adams has announced the appointment of Octavio Hurtado to be the City’s new Director of Public Works.  Hurtado began work in the position this week on August 22.

Hurtado was appointed following a competitive recruitment process.  He is licensed engineer with over 32 years of engineering experience with the firm of Hanna-Brunetti.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, and has worked under contract on a part-time basis as the City of King City Engineer since 2006.

Mr. Hurtado stated: “I am honored and excited to officially join the King City management team. I am looking forward to serving the community, focusing on improving the services we provide for our residents, businesses, and visitors, as well as working on upcoming projects that will benefit all members of the community.”

The City has been without a full-time public works director for many years due to financial constraints.  The position will oversee the Public Works Department, including street and sidewalk improvements, wastewater services, capital projects, development plan check of right-of-way improvements, parks and public facilities, and operation of the Mesa Del Rey Airport.   According to City Manager Adams, “The new position is a big step in returning the City’s service levels to appropriate levels and reflects the City’s priority on improving and better maintaining its infrastructure.  Octavio brings to the job a wealth of experience, will be expanding his role as a valuable member of our City team, and has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the King City community.”
