King City Police Department Launches New Records Management System

In  2021,  the  King  City  Police  Department  launched  an  assessment  of  existing  technology
resources utilized during day‐to‐day operations.  Technology items such as body worn cameras,
electronic  control  devices  (TASER),  in‐car  cameras,  and  a  records  management  system  were
identified as critical equipment for replacement.  A review of vendors was conducted, and AXON
Enterprises was selected to provide services to the Police Department.  AXON Enterprises is a
global  leader  law  enforcement  technology  that  has  been  providing  law  enforcement  services
since 1993.  In addition, they stood out from others due to their ability to provide all the items in
one  comprehensive  package,  built‐in  warranty  programs,  scheduled  equipment  replacement,
technology updates, and collateral training services.

In December 2021, the City Council authorized the Police Department to enter into a 10‐year
agreement  with  AXON  Enterprises  for  law  enforcement  technology  services.    The  Police
Department then began moving forward modernizing existing technology while leveraging 2022
price costs into the next ten years creating significant costs to the city.   During the morning of August 29, 2022 the Police  Department,  in  collaboration  with  AXON  Enterprises,  launched  its  new  Records  Management  System  (RMS)  becoming  the  9th  agency  in  the  United  States  to  go‐live  with  the  AXON  RMS  program.

The advanced intuitive system is a cloud‐based reporting system which allows officers to author
reports in the field. The system is interoperable with AXON Evidence providing direct access to
video,  pictures,  documents,  and  citizen  captured  evidence.  It  allows  for  the  scanning  of
information and transcription with AXON Body 3 cameras directly into a report.  It also allows for
electronic submission of all information collected to the District Attorney’s Office, eliminating
manual  packaging  and  considerable  lost  staff  time.  Over  the  life  of  the  agreement,  annual
maintenance  fees  for  the  program  are  integrated  as  a  packaged  fee  ensuring  the  program  is
regularly maintained and updated. As AXON develops new features within AXON Records, they
would be released to the Police Department as part of the existing fee structure.

This completes the Police Department’s third of four AXON product launch phases.  Previously,
in May of 2022 the Police Department put AXON Body 3 body worn cameras and AXON Taser 7
electronic control devices into service.
