On Thursday night, July 21 at 11:30 PM, Soledad Police Officers received a call of a large fight at the Watering Trough Bar on West Street. As units responded it was upgraded to a shooting. Within a minute officers detained 3 males on the 200 block of Market Street. Minutes later, the Greenfield Police Department, the Gonzales Police Department, the King City Police Department, and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office arrived to assist.
Once the scene was controlled, Officers reviewed surveillance cameras and determined that Paul Olivas Jr. was involved in the fight and the shooting. Cameras show that a large fight broke out inside the bar and Olivas Jr. was pushed out of the bar along with others who were involved in the fight. He was then seen retrieving a gun from his waistband, walking back towards the bar where he points a gun towards the crowd and bar and then he shoots one round into the air.
Olivas Jr. was arrested, booked and later transported to the Monterey County Jail on weapons charges, along with the recklessly discharging a weapon at an occupied building.
