River Road Emergency Repair at Fairview Road Project to Begin on June 1; Community Meeting planned for May 26

Repair and construction work to replace a culvert underneath River Road damaged during the

2021 Winter Storms in the Soledad area will begin on June 1, 2022. Construction and message signs

will be placed along River Road leading up to Fairview Road in anticipation of construction

activities.

The project is expected to take approximately 145 days to complete. While the majority of the

work will be done outside of the roadway, delays and temporary traffic control are expected

during the day, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Construction activities will include excavation, grading, pipe installation, rip-rap installation,

paving, curb installation, signing and striping. Certain phases of the work will require temporary

closure of River Road to install the culvert under the existing roadway. Advance notification to

the community will be provided prior to any planned road closures.

The estimated construction cost for the River Road Emergency Repair is $3,000,000 and is funded

by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Emergency Relief program with a local match

using Measure X funds. Whitaker Construction Group, Inc., from Paso Robles, California, was

awarded the construction contract for this project.

A Community Meeting will be held for residents and businesses affected by this work.

Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try t...
