A power outage was reported in Greenfield at 7:36 pm on Monday night, May 16 due to a flyaway metallic balloon that made contact with power lines on Oak Avenue. The metallic balloon caused a downed power line and resulted in electricity going out in that area impacting more than 2,400 customers. PG&E crews worked with first responders to make the area safe and worked on repairs throughout the night. Power to customers was fully restored by 11:48 p.m. PG&E states that this incident is a great reminder to never release metallic balloons outdoors because of how they have the potential to contact power lines and cause outages. Every year, especially during graduation season, hundreds of metallic balloons make contact with electric equipment because due to how they’re released outdoors. PG&E reminds residents to always tie balloons to a weight and puncture before disposing.
