A man wanted in Soledad was busted by law enforcement after a high speed pursuit on May 18

On Wednesday, May 18 at 12:30 PM, 2 Soledad Police detectives observed Hector Guerrero, a parolee at large, who also had a felony warrant. Guerrero was able to evade the detectives, but not before they could get his vehicle description out to the surrounding agencies.

Several minutes later, Officers with the Gonzales Police Department spotted Guerrero entering their city, and a pursuit ensued. Guerrero fled through the city of Gonzales, but could not evade the Gonzales Police Officers. He then went southbound on Highway 101, where the Gonzales PD was joined by Soledad Police Officers, Greenfield Police Officers, and members of the South County Joint Task Force.

Guerrero then entered the city of Soledad and was pursued up to Gabilan Drive, where he crashed into a parked vehicle and fled on foot. Everyone involved in the pursuit was able to lock down the area quickly. The Soledad PD was then joined by the Monterey County Sherrif's Office, who sent deputies, a K-9 Unit, and their Air Ops Unit with a drone. The California Highway Patrol also arrived on the scene dispatching their Air Ops Unit, Air 73. State Parole Agents and Monterey County Probation Officers also arrived to assist.

After 2 hours, with multiple yards and houses being searched, Guerrero was found inside a residence on Franscioni Street and was taken into custody without further incident. In the vehicle he was driving was a loaded, unregistered automatic handgun.

Guerrero was later booked in the Monterey County Jail on weapons charges, being a parolee at large, felony warrants, evading, and hit and run.

The Soledad PD advises the residents and schools in the area that were affected that your safety is their highest priority and that was the reason for the lockdowns and road closures.

On July 5, 2024, Parks staff noticed that dead baitfish, mostly shad, began washing up on the shore around Lake San Antonio and immediately contacted California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to report the situation. At that time, the CDFW fisheries biologist stated the fish die off was most likely due to the high temperatures and low dissolved oxygen level in the water and that the situation most likely did not present a risk to the public. Parks staff also contacted the Water Resources Agency (WRA), State Water Resources Control Board and Environmental Health Bureau.   Unfortunately, the fish die off has continued with larger species such as bass, catfish, crappie, carp, and trout being impacted. Attached photos include a 3–4-pound bass.   CDFW, WRA and EHB are working together to try to determi
