Monterey County Joins National Commemoration of 2022 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week; “Rights, access, equity for all victims.” April 29, 2022, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

During the week of April 24 through April 30, 2022, crime victims and survivors and those who serve them, will join together across America to promote victims’ rights and services, and to educate communities about the devastating impact of crime on victims, neighborhoods, schools, and the nation as a whole. Since 1978, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Victims of Crime Unit has worked diligently with victims of crime to ensure that they are aware of victim assistance and compensation programs that can help them cope with the aftermath of crime. In 2022, the unit provided over 17,000 mandated services to 3,000 new crime victims in Monterey County. The 2022 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week not only honors the victims of crime, but the many agencies that assist them as well. Please join members of the community in honoring victims of crime at the Monterey County Courthouse Courtyard, located at 142 W. Alisal Street, Salinas. The event will feature Monica Vasquez and Humberto Pena as the Inspirational Speakers. Monica and Humberto’s son was murdered by Marques Gaines in Chualar in July of 2014. Additionally, the ceremony will include survivors of homicide victims invited to announce the name of their loved one and the release of doves in memory of all victims of crime. Concluding the ceremony, Jeannine Pacioni, District Attorney will dedicate the Victim Memorial Sculpture in honor of those murdered in Monterey County in the breezeway of the Courthouse Campus.
